WHY LEARN MUSIC?
Through music lessons you will learn not just musical skills, but skills that will help in every part of your life.
The musical skills that will be learned include
· Rhythm (having an inner sense of pulse)
· Aural (being able to play a tune heard on a CD, Radio, etc)
· Reading (being able to read and play music)
· Writing (ability to write and understand musical notation)
· Style (ability to play in different styles, from Rock to Classical)
Other benefits of learning music include:
· Music helps both sides of the brain interact to help accelerate one's learning ability.
· Increased confidence through concerts and examinations
· Helps with concentration and interaction at school

WHAT AGE?
It is never to late to start playing music, but the best time to start a child is when he/she is about 4 or 5 years old. At this age their aural skills are developed easier. Their playing at this age will be relatively simple, but as they develop in their physical characteristics, their playing will also develop. WHAT LESSONS ARE BEST?
PRIVATE LESSON
These are one-on-one lessons in Piano, Keyboard, and Theory. This one is the best choice for most age groups, and is essential if wanting to sit for Exams.
SHARED LESSON
These lessons are conducted in pairs and are available for Piano, Keyboard and Theory. This can generate friendships, accountability, and motivation between the two students.
THEORY CLASS
This one is primarily used if sitting for theory Exams. It is conducted in groups of several people, but is only available from time to time.
LATE STARTERS BAND
For people who want to learn in a relaxed, group atmosphere. This is for almost any instrument, and for High School Age up to Adult. WHAT IS THE COST?
The minimum recommended cost of lessons from the Music Teachers Association of Queensland is $19.00 for a half-hour private lesson, but I have tried to keep my cost down. Also, if you have more than one from a family learning from me, we will be able to arrange a discount.
Your introductory lesson is free, and involves us having a lesson and some time to discuss want is to be achieved through the lessons.
Different students will have different focuses on what they want to achieve. Some work on exams to demonstrate that they are at a specific level, but some do it just to learn an instrument and to have fun. The musical skills that will be learned include

When is the best time to start learning?
It is hard for a teacher to be able to gauge whether a child is ready to start music lessons, without first meeting the potential student, but a few things may help you to gauge whether the child is ready. One of the most important things is to surround the child with different styles of music from day one! This will help them to appreciate all the different types of music that are available, just as they appreciate the different colours and smells that they encounter. Some beneficial music would include Bach’s Violin Sonatas or Partitas, to Chopin Etudes, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, or Beethoven’s Pastorale Symphony as well as some jazz from Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Chick Corea, George Shearing or Gary Burton. Surround them with music!!! There are a few key factors as to when the child should start actually learning an instrument. The child and the parent should be able to put aside 10-15 minutes aside everyday to practice, the same time, if possible. The child should also be able to sit still and concentrate for about 10-15 minutes and be able to recognise numbers 1-5 and letters A-G. There are always exceptions to these ‘rules’, but that is something that can be gauged at the trial lesson. Article from "How to help your child succeed at the piano" by Patricia Taylor Lee
